> This is on an iPhone 4S. If you have a 4, you *might* experience something different… will be testing on my wifes 4 later.
============
• I experience NO slowdown except at the first second of a stage when my ship comes onto the screen (if I have a shield). But this is just the first second while it loads the graphics for the shield up (will probably be adjusted in an upcoming update).
• Controls are also 100% responsive on my 4S (will test a 4 later on). Everything works smoothly and if the other reviewers are experiencing unresponsiveness on 4S models, I would venture to say the problem is with the user, not the app or the device (no offense)
So there are some in-app purchases. Are they necessary? NOPE! The game can feel like a bit of a grind at first since building up money for upgrades doesnt move too quickly. But Ive been playing for a few hours over the course of a weekend and I have the missiles (one of three types of weapons) maxed out, lasers up to around level 4, and machine guns at level 3. I also have side upgrades which are level 5 shields, level 3 attractor, and I bought the "kill all" bomb once and decided to not repurchase it after that.
None of this required in-app purchases. Im *almost* done with stage 5 on Hard and am linking forward to the next (and final) difficulty.
Something I didnt realize: you get a power boost for missiles (I would assume for other weapons as well) as you increase in level; Increasing doesnt just effect the number of lock-ons you can establish. Once I hit level 4 or 5, the creatures in stage 4 were much easier to kill since they required less lock-ons.
For someone who was a huge fan of R-Type, this has the same kind of feel. Not the same kind of gameplay, but the same style.
As others have mentioned, the controls are different. It doesnt take long to get used to them, though.
Hope that helps!
